Snoring Causes: Factors That Lead To Snoring
Snoring can be caused/led to by several health and lifestyle factors. The same factors are responsible for snoring in both men and women.
Some of the common causes of snoring include:
1. Certain allergy symptoms that cause obstruction of the airways and trachea.
2. Dry nasal cavities as a result of reaction to medications.
3. Cold and Flu symptoms which can also obstruct the airways. (There are so many people who normally do not snore, but snore when they have cold/flu).
4. Thickening of tissues in the nasal passages.
5. Misuse/over use of nasal decongestants/nasal spays. (Using an un-prescribed nasal decongestant/spray can cause snoring or even so more serious health condition).
6. Goitre. (Enlargement of the thyroid gland which manifests as a swelling of the front of the neck. Goitre can be caused by iodine deficiency).
7. An unusually large tongue that obstructs breathing.
8. Your body system not being effectively able to control your mucous membranes.
9. Inflamed adenoids or Tonsils.
10. Being Obese or overweight can lead to snoring.
11. Big belly: By having a big belly, the relative size of your lungs decreases and this can cause a person to snore.
12. Excessive alcohol intake. (alcohol relaxes the throat muscles and makes them collapse and dilate the blood vessels and causes throat tissue to swell up)
13. Cigarette smoking, which inflames the upper airway
14. Aging. (As you get older your muscle tone generally weakens and when those associated with breathing also weakens, snoring sets in).
15. Tranquilizers, sleeping pills, and antihistamines can cause snoring.
